Wonderwall Studios Bog Oak Collection

Bog oak is not a specific species of tree. It’s the term used to describe wood that has been buried in a peat bog for hundreds, if not thousands, of years – the material that’s hidden from view, and largely immune to destruction thanks to the low oxygen, highly acidic conditions it has had to endure.

Wonderwall Studios decided a long time ago to tap into the incredible aesthetics of this fossilised timber. Travelling the world to source the finest quality bog trees, trunks and logs nature can provide, the team has since immortalised the best untold stories from the deep in their incredible collection of bog oak wood wall panels.

Much of the timber used here has been salvaged from the Ukraine, under the watchful eye of experienced craftsmen who work tirelessly to give this striking material a new lease of life. All bog oak is extracted carefully and precisely from the bottom of rivers and wetlands to ensure minimal impact on the local environment.

Clue

With its smooth sanded finish and immaculately cut lines, it’s hard to believe that the bog oak used to produce these remarkable wall panels hasn’t seen the light of day for a century or more. Clue delivers the kind of décor that wouldn’t have looked out of place in an executive’s office in 1960s Manhattan; sharp, swanky, seriously stylish.

Ledger

With its dark grains and broody frames, Ledger could have easily become the sullen brother of Wonderwall Studios’ other bog wood collections. The inverted colour gradients in these bog oak wood wall panels keep things fresh, however, while the matte finish prevents the design from looking or feeling old-fashioned in any sense.

Sage

Peat browns and intense blacks dominate Sage, a design inspired by the murky depths of the wetlands yet abated by the beautiful shade variations packed into each and every panel. The timber used within these bog oak wall panels has been dragged from the mires of the Eastern European landscape after months of cautious exploration.

Going the Extra Mile: Bog Oak

Sourcing – then unearthing – bog oak is no mean feat. This notoriously elusive material has been submerged for centuries in wild, treacherous wetlands that are largely untouched by their nearby communities. Here’s an insight into the extraction process adopted by local divers, and a closer look at how this wood is re-engineered into premium quality wood panels.
